LIFE INCLUSION VOLUNTEER ENTERPRISES

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Through social and respite support and group picnics, LIVE aims to:

  • provide personalized, sensitive and on going support within a friendly relationship through the one on one matching of a volunteer and a person with a disability
  • encourage local people to help members of their community to participate in everyday life
  • provide opportunities for people with a disability to gain skills through volunteering

Both social and respite support involve spending time (approx 3-4 hrs a fortnight) one on one with an individual however there are a few main differences between the two.

Respite Support:

  • Involves supporting individuals under the age of 18, therefore giving their parents/carers some time to themselves (respite)
  • Volunteers may be required to assist with any money parents give the child for outings organised
  • Involves more interaction/communication with parents

Social Support:

  • Involves individuals over the age of 18
  • In most volunteering situations, there is no need for the volunteer to play any part in the clients money handling

NB: Please note that neither social or respite support involves sharing overnight accommodation unless discussed with LIVE staff and added to your role description.
