WHY VOLUNTEER WITH THE LIVE
PROJECT?
The LIVE project is designed to assist
people to overcome social isolation. Social isolation can occur for anyone,
however it most often occurs when people live alone and do not have
contact with friends, family or networks such as employment and community.
There are many older people and people with a disability who experience
social isolation and LIVE volunteers can assist
by providing social support or respite support for
parents of young people with a disability.
WHAT IS LIVE?
LIVE is a collaborative project auspiced by
STAR - Skill Teaching and Resources Inc. and funded by State and
Commonwealth Governments through the Home and Community Care Program. LIVE
is funded to provide social support to people with a disability and their
carers.
LIVE also has help from LEVEDA Inc. and
Pathways to Independence who provide
resources including expertise and meeting spaces. LIVE
is guided by a management committee consisting of participating
agencies, clients and volunteers and employs a full time project officer and
a part time assistant.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We recruit, orient, train and support volunteers to assist people with a
disability to follow their interests within community settings. Student
placements are available and provide opportunities for tertiary students to
gain valuable knowledge and experience in this field. Training is provided
to ensure the highest standards of skill and confidence for volunteers as
well as 24/7 support for volunteers.
LIVE
creates opportunities for fulfillment, both for people with a disability
and for community volunteers.
